Orientation at George Mason University focuses on providing a holistic and informative transition to the Mason community, through clear communication, meaningful experiences, inclusion, and academic excellence. This program sees approximately 9,000 students each summer, and roughly 1,000 students each winter.
The Mason community believes family is made up of many different individuals – parents, siblings, roommates, friends, significant others, children, etc. FW features several exciting events that provide families with the opportunity to connect, celebrate, and make new memories. On average, Family Weekend sees approximately 2,900 participants.
Sibs & Kids Weekend provides students and faculty members with siblings and/or children/dependents from ages 6-18 years of age the opportunity to enjoy various activities, from examining ancient fossils to visiting Mason’s greenhouse. Through these events, NSFP hopes that every Sibs & Kids Weekend guest gets to experience life as a Mason Patriot!
The Patriot Success Initiative helps identify, implement, and assess student-level interventions with the intention to increase engagement, retention, and timely degree completion among Mason undergraduate students. Welcome2Mason is a campus-wide initiative hosted at the beginning of the semester to welcome new and returning students to campus.
Mason Reads is a program that provides every incoming freshman with a common book that is infused into academic classes and co-curricular programming throughout a student’s first year. Every October, the president of the University gets the privilege of interviewing the author of the chosen book. This event brings in 1,100+ viewers to Mason’s Center for the Arts.
